We start science communication with laughter. Because it connects people.

PROJECT

What does a clown do at Potsdamer Platz or in a shopping center? Surprise. Enchant. And asks: “What questions do you have for new research?”

The project “Clowning for new research” combines classic theater techniques of clowning and mime with scientific communication in order to connect universities and citizens. Two improv artists play with little walk act, surprises and mishaps – difficulties are transformed into opportunities and create moments of fantasy and laughter. These creative encounters with Berliners in the public space are used to gather perspectives, questions and topics for new research.

PARTNERS

The project was developed together with experts from the Berlin University Alliances’s TD-Lab – Laboratory for transdisciplinary research.

A basic assumption of the program #Berlinforschtmit is that science can contribute even better to solving social challenges if the topics for joint research are already brought in from society. But what are the topics or Berlin-specific problems that Berliners are most concerned about? To find that out, the program takes science communication to the streets and asks. With the clowning, a creative approach was developed to find out what moves Berliners.

PORTFOLIO

We performed clowning techniques in the public space – an ideal ice breaker for every organisation to get into contact with a walking audience that passes by on a sidewalk, a public space or a university building. If you want to reach out best to your specific audience, I offer concept work to develop theater actions fitting your target group. If you want to awaken your inner clown yourself, join a clowning workshop or book it for your group.
